No kindergarten are now at risk! Much better even though we have 30
more kids than we normally have. Good job kindergarten and the
wonderful team that have helped the at risk students to improve.
First grade now has a large group that are now in the advanced group.
Second grade had huge percentage improvements although there are
still a large group that are in the high risk.
Third grade made gains and improvements in the advanced, proficient,
basic and at risk students.
Fourth grade has lowered the at risk students by 5% and increased the
advanced by 8%.
Fifth grade had a huge increase in the advanced students.
More help. We think the no increase is from outside influences. We
ask to stay late and come early. The numbers sometimes do not show
it, but every student is making gains. We feel good about our
students. Even the ones that didn't make benchmark. Some students
made over 200% gains. The teachers LOVE the fact we have more help.

Second Step:
This is a busy time for children who are
learning many new skills in school. One
area of learning that requires specific skills is social-emotional
learning. These skills are very
important for healthy child development.
At Wilson
we are strengthening these skills with the use of a Second Step. Our school social worker, Amy Court , and Principal Sundee have
collaborated with teachers and parents to form small groups of children who can
work together in developing and practicing positive social skills such as
empathy, emotion management, and problem solving. The groups are going great … watch for future
updates about what we are learning! If
you want more information about the Second Step program, please
email: amy.court@loganschools.org.

PTA President Message:
February Fun!
We
have a lot of things going this month at Wilson Elementary! One of my favorite events of the school year
is the Valentine’s Tea! This year, the
Tea will be held right on Valentine’s Day, February 14th. Remember to wear your best dress and use your
best manners! Right along with the Tea
is the Science Fair! Amy Hochberg has
done such an incredible job preparing for the Science Fair this year and I encourage
those of you who can to participate.
Also,
Parent Teacher Conferences will be going on.
Now is a great time for open communication between parents, students and
teachers. February 20th is Presidents Day and it is an election year
for the United States . This creates an opportunity to discuss how
the United States
is governed and the process of electing a President. If February goes by quick … it will be March
before we know it!
Reminder,
PTA board meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month, except this
month it will be February 8th at 4:10 in the Teachers Lounge. Thanks to all the volunteers that keep our
school and PTA successful!
