Radon Warning
Radon is a cancer-causing, colorless, odorless radioactive gas.
It is a natural decay product from uranium that over time may accumulate in homes. The U.S. Surgeon General and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency say radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer overall – about 21,000 U.S. deaths annually. Elevated levels of radon can only be measured through testing. Radon test kits are available from the Utah Safety Council and local hardware stores. Also, $6 discounted kits are available online for purchase that come with a laboratory analysis. Order kits from www.radon.utah.gov and obtain other useful information. Please visit the Bear River Health Department website: www.brhd.org click on ENVIRONMNETAL HEALTH then click on RADON- READ MORE HERE – to see more radon information and get details specific to your locale.

Keep turning in Box Tops! You are doing great. You can turn them in loose or on the box top collection sheets. Either way is great. We are keeping track of how many each class turns in. The class with the most box tops turned in will get an ice cream party at the end of the year!

Principal's Message
Greetings Wilson Families,
Wilson Elementary is a Title 1 School
Parents, according to the NCLB law, have the right to know the professional qualifications of their child’s teacher. Additionally, parents must be notified if their child is being assigned to or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified. Any teacher who has not taken and passed the PRAXIS is not highly qualified. All of the teachers at Wilson Elementary are Highly Qualified. If you have questions, call (435-755-2340) or email me at sundee.ware@loganschools.org
Carrolyn’s Clothing Drive
Thank you once again for your unequaled support of Wilson’s (Carrolyn’s) Clothing Drive. You may have seen the article in the Herald Journal on November 23, 2011. This year our fabulous community donated and dispersed ONE TON of clothes. We served 150 people and were able to give the remaining clothes to Ellis Elementary who will use them in their Clothing Drive.
School Improvement Plan
This year our School Improvement Plan focuses on 3 areas.
Goal #1- Language Arts Common Core –Wilson Elementary will meet AYP in Language Arts for the 2011-2012 School Year
Goal#2 - Math Common Core: All students at
Wilson Elementary will continue to meet AYP in Math.
Goal #3 - ESL Implementation Plan: The ALL subgroup will make AYP for the 2011-2012 School Year
Vocabulary is the key ingredient for helping your student. You will notice that we have word study in every grade. Please become familiar with the format of “Words Their Way” so that you can encourage your student..

PTA President Message
Happy Holidays!
I hope everyone was able to “Gobble ‘til you Wobble” on Thanksgiving and find a few minutes to think about some things to be thankful for. We are blessed to live in America, lucky to have public education, and have the right to vote.
Just a reminder our PTA meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 4:10 in the teachers lounge at the school. Mark your calendars for our next meeting on December 7th.
Now that the Holiday Season is upon us, it is a great time to learn how other parts of the world and other religions celebrate what most of us call Christmas. It is called different names and is celebrated at various times of the year throughout the world. Check it out!
Thanks to all of you who give of your time and talents to make Wilson Elementary as wonderful as it is! You are truly appreciated.
