Principal Message
Dear Wilson
Families,
Thank you, again, for all of your support and
service throughout the 2011-2012 school year.
I can’t say enough about the wonderful PTA. They have sponsored successful activities and
events that have made Wilson Elementary and its community a better place.
This year students have excelled in many activities, including
the science fairs, the spelling bee, the Grand Beehive, plays, orchestra, and
reflections. They donated approximately
400 items of food, one ton of clothing and service learning.
As we look forward to the common core
implementation, I would encourage you to go on line and review its
components. The website is www.corestandards.org we love
the rigor and the opportunity for students to apply their great thinking
skills.
I would encourage you to ask your children to use
thinking maps to explain his or her thinking about any subject.
Have an enjoyable summer!!

Keep up the good work!
Keep
turning in Box Tops! You are doing great.
You can turn them in loose or on the box top collection sheets.
Either way is great. We are keeping track of how many each class turns
in. The class with the most box tops
turned in will get an ice cream party at the end of the year!

Principal's Message
Dear Wilson Parents,
We are
the luckiest school around.
The PTA
is the “gold” at the end of our rainbow. During February, they trained every
student how to create a science fair project.
Projects were on display during SEP’s.
Eleven of our students went on to compete at the next level. Every one of them received ribbons for their
work and participation. PTA also treated us to the perfect Valentine Tea. They helped us during SEP’s and are
consistently working for the families and the teachers in this community. We look forward to the Mom’s, Math and
Muffins.
Luckily
we had about 95% of our families come to SEP conferences to meet with teachers
and celebrate student achievement. We
trained many of you on how to help students with some of the math concepts in
our Parent Universities.
With
only twelve weeks left in school, I would like to encourage all of us to keep
up the great work. Among many other
activities, let’s look forward to and plan for the following events:
Dancing
with the Stars, Class placements for the 2012-2013 school year (available in
the front office on March 19 and they will be due back by March 30th) Spring
Break, Core Testing, and the end of the year celebration assembly.
Hooray for March.

Second Step:
This is a busy time for children who are
learning many new skills in school. One
area of learning that requires specific skills is social-emotional
learning. These skills are very
important for healthy child development.
At Wilson
we are strengthening these skills with the use of a Second Step. Our school social worker, Amy Court , and Principal Sundee have
collaborated with teachers and parents to form small groups of children who can
work together in developing and practicing positive social skills such as
empathy, emotion management, and problem solving. The groups are going great … watch for future
updates about what we are learning! If
you want more information about the Second Step program, please
email: amy.court@loganschools.org.
