Student Drop Off Pick Up

Please do not drop off or pick up students in bus lanes or parking lot in front of the school during the hours of 8:45-9:15 a.m. and 3:15-4:00 p.m.

It is a safety issue to have students running in the parking lot between buses to meet parents. Also, please do not interfere with special education buses on 500 East. The best drop-off and pick-up areas are 400 East or 100 South.

*Kindergarten parents: Bus lanes must remain open at all times. Do not park along the curb when dropping off or picking up students.

Who didn't make AYP? Many ESL students. How are we targeting these students? Title 1 funds go for aids that will help these students and all other students as well. We will also be implementing Guided Reading and Guided Math. We have a plan to help the students be separated into their academic level so they can have a better opportunity to grow.

4:40 Facilities

We looked over the overall rating of our building and the proposed budget to repair and upgrade Wilson Elementary. Possible plan to move the parent pickup to 400 East and take out part of the playground to make a circle drive. This should help with congestion of vehicles and the safety of students.

4:45 Bus System and Route Safety for students... is there a way to get money for the kids to not have to pay as much to ride the bus if they are not far away? Possibly a bake sale or another type of fundraiser?

Principal's Message

Welcome Back Wilson Families,

Thank you so much for joining us for Curriculum Night on August 25, 2011.

With the implementation of the Common Core, we have the opportunity to foster critical thinking and problem solving. The rigor of the common core will help our children to strengthen, develop, and expand their capacity to journey from solving problems to problem solvers. We are excited to announce that Wilson Elementary has qualified to be a Title 1 School during the 2011-2012 school year. The change in our status will allow us to have more resources to work with children. Parents, according to the NCLB law, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of your child’s teacher.
Additionally, parents must be notified if their child is been assigned or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by, a teacher who is not highly qualified. Any teacher who has not taken and passed the PRAXIS is not highly qualified. All of the teachers at Wilson Elementary are highly qualified.

Finally, we would like to “Track Your Success” using several different venues. One of the first will be the Fun Run. We also had a kick off assembly to increase physical activity. It is called Walk More in 4, we would like to invite you to join us at the Culminating Activity Fun Run, which will be October 1, 2011.

Thanks for a great start up. We have enjoyed the first 8 days, 192 hours, 11,520 minutes, 691,200 seconds of this school year. We commit to honoring every single second of this precious endowment.

XOXO Miss Sundee

PTA President's Message

Welcome Back to School Wilson Wildcats!

I am excited to be this year’s PTA President! I’m looking forward to getting to know more students and parents even better as the year goes by. Our Secretary is Renee Daly, Treasurer, Holly Thompson, Membership chair, Traci Anderson and our Teacher Representative is Amy Nollner. We are also still looking for a few more Commissioners for our Board. Please
let us know if you are interested.

Membership in the PTA is vital to our success. As you complete the forms in the PTA packet that was sent home the first week of school, please include PTA membership or contact myself or Traci Anderson if you would like to join. We will only ask you to volunteer your time if you indicate you are available.

Fundraisers this year include collecting Box Tops throughout the year and the Great American Fund Raiser starting in September (wrapping paper, jewelry, gifts etc.). It is the same company we successfully used last year but no cookie dough this year it was heavy, needed to be refrigerated, and was difficult to send home with the students. Our Box Top coordinator is Pam Selman and she will be sending home fun and convenient ways to save Box Tops.

Also, this year we have the 2011-2012 school year calendar magnets for $3. They are available in the main office at the school. At a quick glance you can see when we have half days, Holidays, early release etc. The attendance line and main school phone number are also listed. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns or ideas.

Go Wildcats!
